$50K Reward Offered For Help To Find Driver Who Dragged Biker
TRAVERSE CITY (WWJ/AP) - Traverse City police are renewing requests for help from the public after a bicyclist was struck and killed last month by a hit-and-run driver.
Traverse City Police Chief Mike Warren said Monday that "somebody knows something" about the death of Kelly Ann Boyce.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports investigators have received more than 540 tips.
"It feels like we get close and then nothing happens," Mike Moran, a friend of Boyce and her husband, told the newspaper.
The reward fun has multiplied, with $50,000 now being offered for the tip that leads to an arrest in the case.
Police said an investigation determined that Boyce was traveling eastbound on the south side of Washington Street, within 12" of the curb, when she was struck by a vehicle from behind. The 29-year-old, who worked in the area, was hit about 2 a.m. on July 5 and dragged for 1 1/2 blocks.
Authorities are looking for the driver of a dark SUV or pickup truck that fled the scene. Police say there are cameras all over town, but none of them captured an image leading investigators to that vehicle.
The death in the popular northern Michigan vacation destination has drawn wide attention. A memorial — with flowers, pandas and a white "ghost bicycle," in the alleyway where she died — has expanded in the weeks after her death.
The Grand Traverse County sheriff's department, state police and the FBI are involved in the case.
