Izzo Rumors Won't Distract Spartans
EAST LANSING -- Normally when rumors of a coach being recruited by another school emerge, it becomes a distraction. My guess is this Tom Izzo to Oregon rumor won't.
It is business as usual for Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans as they prepare for Saturday's NCAA semifinal game against Butler in Indianapolis. It is not that big of a deal because Izzo is not seriously thinking about bolting here for the land of Nike. He actually joked about it with Draymond Green shortly after the rumors popped up.
Izzo always plays things just right. He did not insult the folks at Oregon when asked about it. He gave Spartan nation all kinds of love and you just get the feeling that going to the Final Four and being part of coaching rumors is part of every day life for him.
"I have had enough distractions this year," Izzo said. "I promise you guys that this will not be one. I am going to put everything I can into trying to bring this university its third crystal ball. That is all I'm doing."
It is flattering to be wanted by other schools, but Izzo knows MSU is the right fit for him. However, if he wins a second national title (maybe even a third) I think he will be more open to NBA offers. A part of him wants to see if he can do it. He's been told by a number of people that he is not a fit for the NBA. I am one of those people. However, if he wants to see for himself who can blame him unless you are a diehard Spartan fan?
