$5,000 Reward Offered For Tips In Fatal Hit-And-Run Cold Case
IONIA (WWJ/AP) - A $5,000 reward is being offered for information in a Father's Day fatal hit-and-run, 14 years ago in western Michigan.
Gordon Cozat, 70, was struck while outside another vehicle on Jordan Lake Road, near David Highway, in Ionia County's Berlin Township, at around 10:15 p.m. on June 16 of 2002. That's near the Ionia State Recreation Area and Sessions Lake.
According to sheriff's investigators, Cozat was asking for directions from a motorist whose vehicle was stopped right behind his. He was standing by the other driver's car window when a northbound vehicle struck him and then sped away, headed westbound on David Highway toward Saranac.
WOOD-TV reports that the vehicle involved may be a white or light in color 1994-2000 GMC pickup truck, Yukon or Chevy Suburban.
The sheriff's office says investigators have few leads in the case. Anyone with information should call Detective Brent Denny at 616-527-5737 or contact the Silent Observer anonymously at 616-527-0107. The cash reward will be paid to the tipster whose information leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
Cozat was a resident of Coleman, Michigan.
