46 Firefighters Respond To Blaze In Troy
TROY (WWJ) - A bevy of firefighters were called to the Troy-Clawson border after an industrial building went up in flames.
The fire broke out just after 3 p.m. Monday at Sheet Metal Workers Local 292 on Park Street, near Livernois and Maple roads.
Firefighters attempted to extinguish the fire but encountered high heat and heavy smoke conditions, and were forced to back out.
Two ladder trucks were set up and deployed large quantities of water to combat the fire from the air and keep it contained to the front portion of the building. Fire officials say this tactic proved effective, knocking down the majority of the fire.
Firefighters then deployed hose lines and extinguished the rest of the fire from the inside second floor and the roof of the warehouse, saving the rear warehouse from damage.
Officials say all occupants were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported. In all, 46 firefighters responded and worked for several hours to extinguish the fire.
Officials say the fire appears to have started on the second floor of the building, above the ceiling, and spread into the attic.
Preliminary indications are that the fire may have been electrical in nature. The fire, however, remains under investigation.
