42-Year-Old Man Dies In I-96 Crash; 2nd Major Tie-Up Of The Day
DETROIT (WWJ) Don Selden, 42, of Dewitt, Mich., died following an accident on I-96 that shut down the freeway for several hours.
Selden was driving a tow truck on I-96, just west of Milford, when a car allegedly swerved across three lanes of traffic, causing a semi-truck to lock up its brakes.
Unable to swerve, Selden hit the truck, police said.
Lieutenant Nathaniel McQueen explains what happened.
"A state of Michigan tow truck (driven by Selden), which was carrying a patrol car from the Metro Post down in Oak Park back up to Lansing for repairs -- The tow truck ran into the back of and made contact with, the semi truck that was stopping as they saw the initial vehicle going across all three lanes of travel," he said.
That was the second fatal crash on I-96 Wednesday.
Police say an 89-year-old man was killed after his vehicle was involved in an accident with a semi-truck around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on westbound I-96 at the M-52/Stockbridge Rd/Exit 122 in Webberville.
