15K Still Without Power After Monday Storms
DETROIT (WWJ) - DTE Energy says they are continuing to make progress in restoring power to those still without following Monday's fast-moving storms.
As as of early Tuesday evening, about 15,000 DTE Energy customers were still in the dark, with the brunt of the damage in Wayne County; the Dearborn, Taylor, Canton and Dearborn Heights areas.
DTE spokesman Scott Simons said they hope to have everyone back on the grid by late Tuesday night.
Simons told WWJ Newsradio 950 that jobs are being prioritized.
"What we look at is the largest number of customers we can bring back with one fix. So, a circuit that has 900 customers will have a precedence over a circuit that has 300 customers. And we work our way down the circuit list according to the number of customers served," Simon said.
On the west side of the state, CMS Energy Corp. said about 42,000 of its customers still are without power, including about 16,000 in Kalamazoo County alone.
At its peak, Monday's storms knocked out power to some 191,000 homes and businesses statewide.
