4-Year-Old Boy Killed While Crossing Street After Midnight

CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - Police say a 4-year old boy is dead after he was hit by a car early Saturday morning in Clinton Township.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Groesbeck Highway just south of Weybridge Street.

According to police, a vehicle driven by a 24-year-old Fraser woman was traveling in the right lane on southbound Groesbeck when she noticed a young child in the driveway of a 7-Eleven convenience store and began braking.

"With attention to the child in the driveway, the driver felt an impact to the front of the vehicle, striking a second child pedestrian who was attempting to cross Groesbeck from east to west," police said in a statement.

The child, who was identified only as a 4-year-old from Clinton Township, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the Fraser woman, whose name is being withheld, was released pending any applicable charge or warrant that may be issued upon further investigation.

Police didn't say why the children were outside at such an early hour of the morning.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Clinton Township police at 586-493-7933.
