4 Held On Attempted Murder Charges Over 'Botched Robbery' In Bloomfield Hills
BLOOMFIELD HILLS (WWJ) - Three men and one woman are facing several charges, including attempted murder and home invasion, in what police are calling the botched robbery of a Bloomfield Hills attorney.
Twenty-year-old Henry Williams and 21-year-old Devon Miller, the alleged shooter, are being held on $5 million bonds, while 20-year-old Christopher Hernandez Monteil and 23-year-old Cassandra Chobod are being held on $2 million bonds in connection with the attack on David Zacks.
Zacks, 57, called 911 just before midnight last Wednesday, reporting that a man impersonating a police officer shot him at his home in the 200 block of Woodwind, near Lahser and Square Lake roads.
Zacks told investigators the man identified himself as a police officer and asked to come in. When Zacks refused to let the man in and threatened to call police, the suspect fired multiple shots through the front door, striking Zacks several times.
In court on Monday, police said the group planned to rob Zacks, but their plans changed when they realized he was home. Police said the group then drove to Detroit and purchased a gun before returning to the home where Zacks, his wife, two children and a house guest were staying.
Zacks, whose injuries were said to be life-threatening, underwent emergency surgery and is currently hospitalized in stable condition. No one else was injured.
More information is expected to be revealed during a preliminary exam on May 12.
"All four gave police statements and all requested court appointed attorneys," WWJ's Charlie Langton said. "But questions remain, like what's the relationship of the female defendant to Zacks? Police called her his associate, but we don't know what that means. And is there a connection between this incident and two of the defendants, Miller and Williams, who have a 2012 conviction for a bank robbery in Macomb County? We'll see."
