4 Charged After Detroit Man Falls To Death In West Virginia
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WWJ/AP) - Four people have been charged in the death of a Detroit man who fell from a ninth-floor apartment window in Charleston.
According to a criminal complaint, 23-year-old Tyler Ferrebee, 26-year-old Brian Parks and Martez Griffin each were charged with felony murder and first-degree robbery in the death of 23-year-old Bryson Ward. Griffin's age and hometown were unavailable.
Lisa Ferrebee, who is Tyler Ferrebee's mother and Griffin's girlfriend, was also charged with accessory to felony murder and accessory to first-degree robbery.
Charleston Police Lt. Steve Cooper says neighbors heard a commotion Tuesday night and called 911. When police arrived, they forced their way into the apartment and found evidence of a struggle, but nobody inside.
Police found evidence of a struggle in the apartment but nobody inside. After inspecting the apartment, police realized Ward's body was below the window in the grass.
Investigators believe Ward died as the result of a "violent robbery" -- the crooks after several thousand dollars in cash.
"The three men who are in custody, during that robbery, they all played particular roles in the crime which led to the death of Bryce," Cooper told The Charleston Gazette-Mail. "The three conspired to go to the apartment to rob him of heroin and a large amount of cash. They completed that robbery, and they did get the cash."
Police have described Ward and Griffin as close associates who had a falling out. Both men are from Detroit.
All four suspects were taken into custody on Thursday. Tyler Ferrebee and Parks were arrested in Charleston, West Virginia, while Griffin and Lisa Ferrebee were arrested in Little Rock, Arkansas.
An investigation is ongoing.
