3rd Man Found Guilty In U-M Medical Student's Fatal Shooting
ANN ARBOR (WWJ/AP) - A 21-year-old South Carolina man has been convicted for his role in the slaying of a University of Michigan medical student during a robbery near the school's Ann Arbor campus.
The Ann Arbor News reports that a Washtenaw County jury announced Tuesday that Joei Jordan was guilty of felony murder, home invasion and conspiracy to commit home invasion.
Jordan will be sentenced March 11.
Paul DeWolf, 25, was attending medical school on an Air Force scholarship when he was shot during a July, 2013 armed robbery at the off-campus medical fraternity house where he lived.
Two other men — 22-year-old Dajeon Franklin and 22-year-old Shaquille Jones — already have been convicted in DeWolf's death. Franklin is serving life without parole. Jones was sentenced to up to 50 years.
In court, a video was played of an interview Ann Arbor police detectives conducted with Jones during which he admitted that he, Jordan and Franklin had entered the Phi Rho Sigma fraternity house while DeWolf slept.
Jones told police the room was very dark and they didn't know DeWolf was home, until he asked, "Who's there?"
Jones said Franklin aimed a gun at DeWolf, who tried to grab the weapon. According to Jones, Franklin, in turn, tried to hit DeWolf with the gun. That's when, he said, the gun went off and DeWolf was shot in the neck.
Authorities said a video game system was taken and later sold for $80.
