3 Young Copper Thieves Arrested In Dearborn
DEARBORN (WWJ) - Three young men were arrested in Dearborn after being caught red-handed, stealing copper plumbing from a home under renovation.
Police say 22-year-old Derek Carter, 18-year-old Devonte Curry and 18-year-old James Hannum were arrested Monday and each arraigned on one court of breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny.
Investigators say they first observed the three men walking in the area of Tireman and Bingham streets. After losing sight of the men in the area of Reuter and Morross streets, a canine unit was called in. The canine tracked the men to a home under renovation on Hartwell Street.
Officers entered the home and found the men, who were in the process of removing copper plumbing. They were taken into custody without incident.
Police Chief Ronald Haddad applauded the work of his team.
"The Dearborn Police will continue to patrol neighborhoods in marked as well as unmarked police vehicles to maintain our presence and discourage those who would negatively impact the quality of life our residents have come to expect."
A preliminary examination is scheduled for Friday, March 23 at the 19th District Court.
