3-Year-Old Boy Injured In Hit-And-Run Crash
PONTIAC (WWJ) - A 3-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Pontiac.
Police say the accident happened around 10:22 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of E. Madison, near Joslyn Road.
The child's 28-year-old mother told deputies she was picking up the boy and his 2-year-old brother from a 24 hour residential daycare when the older boy walked away while she was talking to one of the workers.
When the mother found the boy, he was suffering from what police described as "facial, ear, mouth, and foot injuries." The mother immediately rushed the boy to McLaren Hospital and called police.
Officers responded to the Joslyn and E. Madison area and located the child's shoes and a sock in the roadway, along with possible traces of blood. Deputies think the boy was walking on the curb along Joslyn Road when he was struck with a "glancing blow."
The boy was later transported to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital for further treatment, but is expected to recover from his injuries.
Investigators are now asking for the public's help on this case. Police say it's possible the driver of the vehicle didn't know they had hit the child as it was dark at the time.
