4 Killed As Icy Roads Cause Crashes Across Michigan
WHITE PIGEON TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - Police across Michigan report icy road conditions and multiple accidents, including a one-vehicle crash in the southwest that killed two of the seven people aboard. Another crash in Eaton County has killed a 60-year-old driver.
The St. Joseph County sheriff's department says the double fatal crash happened about 6:40 a.m. Wednesday in White Pigeon Township, 30 miles south of Kalamazoo.
It says the driver was 30-year-old driver Kirk Miller of Keystone, Ind. The department says two of his passengers were killed: 50-year-old Chris Eicher of Portland, Ind., and 48-year-old Danny Graber of Geneva, Ind.
Eaton County Sheriff Tom Reich tells the Lansing State Journal that Donald Brownlee of Howell was killed when his SUV spun out of control on Interstate 69.
Livingston County Sheriff's Lt. J. Lynch says 47-year-old Michael Herrell of Flint was killed when he hit a tractor-trailer while exiting U.S. 23.
MLive.com says a school bus without children went into a ditch near Caledonia.
In metro Detroit, roads were a bit slick Wednesday but the ice melted for the most part as temperatures climbed into the 40s during the day. The sunshine and milder temps were expected to continue into the weekend.
