2 Police Officers Hurt, 2 Suspects At Large After High-Speed Crash
DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are looking for two people who fled the scene following a crash with a Detroit Public Schools Police car Monday morning.
DPS Police Assistant Chief Craig Schwartz says two officers in the scout car were on routine patrol, just before 10:30 a.m., when the vehicle was rear-ended by an SUV "traveling at an excessive rate of speed" in the area of Greenfield and Eaton on the city's northwest side.
Two DPS police officers injured in the crash were Sinai-Grace Hospital for treatment, Schwartz said. According to witnesses, a third person — an older female who was a was passenger in the other car — was treated at the scene.
None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
Witnesses said the speeding vehicle, a smaller Honda SUV, went through a fence after the accident — ending up across the street. Photos from the scene show the squad car also suffered extensive damage.
Police said they were looking for two young males, in their late teens or early 20s, who got out of the Honda and ran. The female passenger was being questioned.
Greenfield was closed between Fenkell and Eaton with an investigation and cleanup underway.
No names were released.
