3 From Michigan Killed In Crash Near Niagara Falls
GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WWJ/AP) - Three Hamtramck men are dead and one critically injured after an 87-year-old man was driving the wrong way on a New York freeway between Buffalo and Niagara Falls.
New York State Police Sergeant Brian Guise told WWJ Newsradio 950 they received reports of a driver going the wrong way on I-190 early just before 1 a.m. Monday.
"We had our patrols responding to the area to attempt to locate the vehicle traveling in the wrong direction and we received an additional report that there was a head-on collision," Guise said.
Police said Richard Hildebrand of Kenmore and the other driver, 22-year-old Burhanur Rahman of Hamtramck, were taken to Erie County Medical Center, where they are listed in critical condition.
Rahman's three passengers, all from Hamtramck, were killed. They're identified as 20-year-old Shofiul Alom and 21-year-olds Nazim Khan and Rezwan Chowdhury.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Hildebrand was driving alone.
