3-Day For The Cure Walk Kicks Off
They have their walking shoes on.
Five-thousand cancer survivors along with family and friends Friday morning started the 3-Day for the Cure walk to raise money for breast cancer research.
The kickoff was at Oakland Community College on Orchard Lake Road near I-696.
There will be plenty of support along the route as walkers stroll 20-miles each day. For example, Farmington Hills employees will set up a "Cheering Station" along Orchard Lake Road, just south of Eleven Mile, this morning. Employees and community members are encouraged to wear pink.
Organizers say an estimated five million Americans will be diagnosed with breast cancer - and more than one million could die - over the next 25 years.
Money raised benefits the Susan G. Komen organization. Each participants has to raise at least $2,300.
Supporters are invited to visit any of the following public stops along the Komen Michigan 3-Day for the Cure route:

4:30 p.m.-Closing Ceremony, Ford Motor Company - World Headquarters in Dearborn.
During the closing ceremony, country music singer/songwriter Candy Coburn will perform her song "Pink Warrior."
