3 Charged In Nursing Home Abduction
TAYLOR (WWJ) - Three men have been charged in the abduction of a 90-year-old man from a Taylor nursing home.
The 25-year old Ted Tomes of Ypsilanti and his father, 54-year old Alfred Khattar of Lincoln Park, were arraigned Monday morning at 23rd District Court in Taylor. They could face up to 15 years in prison if conceited of unlawful imprisonment and abuse charges.
Prosecutors claim, on July 19, the pair lifted Floyd Pickrell over a wall at the Regency Health Care Center in Taylor, with money being the motive. After receiving a tip, police found them at an Ypsilanti hotel.
A third person, 50-year old Darrell Howard of Detroit, has also been charged in the case.
A judge entered not guilty pleas for each of the three men.
"The facts alleged in this case read like a bad movie. The real tragedy is that this is not fiction. This victim was targeted and plotted against because these defendants wanted to fleece him," said Wayne County Prosecutor Kim Worthy, in a statement.
Pickrell, who has dementia, frequented a donut shop owned by Khattar.
