3 Arrested After High-Speed Police Chase Through Metro Detroit
REDFORD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Three people have been arrested after leading police on a wild high-speed chase through several metro Detroit communities.
Michigan State Police said the pursuit — which ended in a crash at I-96 and Telegraph Rd. — began in Warren.
MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw says the men, who had allegedly stolen a red SUV from Southgate, broke into a home on Dequindre and 12 1/2 Mile Rd. Monday morning, setting off the pursuit.
The suspects didn't stop when Warren police tried to pull them over, but took off onto westbound I-696, where State Police took over the pursuit.
The suspects got off onto southbound I-275, taking that to I-96, before exiting onto Telegraph where their vehicle crashed in to a Coke semi truck, just before 11 a.m.
Shaw said three suspects then fled their disabled vehicle on foot, but police caught up.
"Unfortunately for a couple of them, they were pretty out of shape, so we were able to take them into custody pretty quickly," Shaw told WWJ's Zahra Huber.
The third suspect, Shaw said, arrested after they found him hiding under a trampoline in the backyard of a home in Redford Township.
Shaw said two patrol cars and the Coke truck were damaged, but no one was injured.
The names of those in custody were not immediately released. All three will be turned over to Warren police.
