2nd Suspect In Custody In Gas Station Murder
HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - A second man is now in Highland Park police custody suspected in the brutal murder of gas station attendant Hassan Hussein.
Investigators say tips poured in after video surveillance tape aired in local media.
"I'd like to applaud the community for stepping up and getting involved with taking back their community," said Highland Park Mayor DeAndre Windom.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Vickie Thomas spoke Friday with Police Chief Lorenzo Veal who said the second suspect was compelled to turn himself in.
"Because there's a very clear picture of the subject and, anyone who knows him ... he has several expressions by the door. He smiled and the phones lit up, 'That's who this is'," Veal said.
Hussein, 59, was working the overnight shift at the Citgo gas station on Hamilton and Glendale streets when he was fatally shot during a robbery around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Another suspect was arrested on Thursday. The suspects' names have not yet been released.
