2nd Man Sentenced To Life In Matt Landry Murder
DETROIT (WWJ) - Robert Taylor of Detroit has been sentenced to prison for the rest of his life for his role in the 2008 kidnapping and fatal shooting of Matt Landry.
As he spoke to the court, Thursday, Taylor did not seem convinced of his role in Landry's death.
"I feel kind of bad, you know what I'm saying, for the situation. I do wish he was alive," Taylor said.
Landry's mother, Doreen Landry made an appeal to Taylor not to let his mistakes be repeated or glorified by his brothers.
"I can't believe, in my heart, that you would want either one of them to be standing where you're standing right now, facing another heart-broken mother," she said.
Landry's friends and family in the courtroom all wore red heart lapels with the letter "M."
The 18-year old Taylor faces life in prison without parole in the the murder of Landry, who was abducted from an Eastpointe sub shop in 2009. Taylor, who was 16 at the time of the murder, was convicted by a Macomb County jury on all six counts of helping Ihab Maslamani abduct and kill Landry.
The 21-year-old Landry, of Chesterfield Township, was found shot in the head in a vacant Detroit house.
Maslamani is currently serving life in prison. He and Taylor were also accused of robbing a bank.
