2nd Man Charged In Shooting Involving Missing Women
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - The Wayne County prosecutor has filed charges against a man in a shooting that involved two women who have been missing for two weeks.
The shooting occurred on Feb. 8, about three weeks before 21-year-old Ashley Conaway and 18-year-old Abreeya Brown disappeared. Police believe they were abducted from a home in Hamtramck and thrown into the trunk of a car.
Brian Lee was charged Tuesday with attempted murder. He's accused of firing shots into a car occupied by Conaway and Brown.
It was not immediately known if Lee has an attorney. A co-defendant, Brandon Cain, has already been charged.
"We are alleging on charging Brandon Cain -- who we charged ... about 10 days ago on the first of March -- instructed Mr. Lee to shoot the women," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
As Conaway drove away, a bullet grazed her head. She was treated and released from a hospital.
Police have searched for Conaway and Brown in burned out and vacant homes, parks and homes throughout the community.
Worthy declined to comment Tuesday on whether she believes the women are still alive.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Hamtramck Police at 313-876-7803 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800- SPEAK-UP. The reward for tips leading to an arrest in the women's disappearance has grown to over $35,000.
