$2M Settlement Reached In Lawsuit Against Ex-Prosecutors In Parental Sex Abuse Case
PONTIAC (WWJ/AP) - A $2 million settlement has been reached with a metro Detroit couple charged in a sex-abuse case involving their autistic daughter before prosecutors dropped it in 2008.
Julian and Thal Wendrow agreed to settle the lawsuit against Oakland County and former Prosecutor David Gorcyca, ending seven years of litigation. A federal jury last year awarded the couple $3 million.
The Wendrows, formerly of West Bloomfield, were charged in the case involving their then-14-year-old daughter. The case was developed through a disputed method of communicating through a keyboard with an adult's help. In all, they've been awarded $5.75 million.
The couple's lawyer Deborah Gordon says they were "100 percent vindicated by the trial and the previous settlements."
Oakland County says it ended litigation to save costs.
