25 Years Later, Man Charged For Murder Of Isaiah Turner
PONTIAC (WWJ) - More than 25 years later, the Oakland County Prosecutors have charged a man with murder.
The body of Isaiah Turner was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in Pontiac's Kiwanis Park in November of 1987.
The case has remained cold since... until today.
Forty-four-year-old Robert Simpson was arraigned in the Pontiac District Court Friday on first degree murder charges.
Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper says it was a tip that gave the investigation new momentum.
"We had a witness came forward and it's been weighing on his mind for a while and he had been frightened. He had information that he gave to the sheriff's department - they were able to investigate further and compare it with some of the other forensics," said Cooper.
"I think that sometimes when we talk about the cold cases people are reluctant to come forward but you never know when that information will lead to other information, and in this particular case did," added Cooper.
Cooper says this case shows that it is never too late for people to come to police with information.
