2011 Murder Suspect Turns Self In
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Detroit police say a 25-year-old man wanted in the 2011 murder of a man whose body was found after a fire at a vacant garage has turned himself in after a public appeal for information on his whereabouts.
Police announced last week they were looking for Antowan Stitts. A citizen apparently contacted police about the case on Thursday and Stitts turned himself in Friday at a Detroit police precinct. Stitts was arraigned Saturday on a first-degree murder charge, and is jailed pending a Mar. 20 hearing.
Stitts is accused of murdering a 20-year-old Delrico Taylor, whose body was discovered Sept. 12, 2011. Firefighters found the Taylor's body after extinguishing a fire at a vacant garage in the 20300 block of Barlow, near 8 Mile Road and Grosebeck Highway on the city's northeast side. Police said blood was found outside the garage.
