20-Year-Old Macomb County Woman Charged In I-94 Fatal Crash
CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Macomb County woman accused of causing a fatal crash while driving drunk is behind bars on felony charges.
The accident happened early Thursday morning along a wet westbound I-94 in Harrison Township, near Shook Road.
Macomb County Sheriff's officials say 20-year-old Ceara Abbott, of Chesterfield Township, was behind the wheel of a Ford F-150 when the backseat passenger got into a fight with the front seat passenger. Amid the scuffle, Abbott lost control of the vehicle and hit a guard rail.
The front seat passenger, 21-year-old Samantha Mullins of Roseville, was thrown out of the truck. She was pronounced dead a short time later at McLaren-Macomb Hospital.
Abbott was arraigned via video in 41B District Court in Clinton Township, Thursday afternoon, on one count of operating while intoxicated — second offense, and one count of operating while intoxicated causing death — a 15-year felony.
Toxicology results are pending.
Abbott remains held in the Macomb County jail on a $50,000 cash/surety bond and is due back in court on Monday, April 4.
The freeway was closed at Metro Parkway for almost four hours while police investigated the crash scene, but has since reopened.
