2-Year Construction Project Begins On Fort Street
RIVERVIEW (WWJ) - Work began Monday on a four-mile stretch of Fort Street between Lincoln Park and Riverview that will have that major thoroughfare torn up for two years.
Amy Rigley, a waitress at Zorba's Coney Island in Riverview is worried the traffic that will avoid the barrels will also avoid her business.
"I think whatever side's open is where the business is gonna go," Rigley told WWJ Newsradio 950's Ron Dewey.
"There's two other coney islands on the other side Fort Street and if the traffic's slowin', that's where people are goin'," she said.
The work includes rebuilding the road, along with new water and sewer lines, drains and utility lines between Goddard and Sibley Road.
Another Riverview waitress, Nancy, said she dreads seeing the barrels , but there isn't much anyone can do. "We've been here too many years ... to just up and leave or shut the doors because it's not gonna work," she said.
