2 To Stand Trial In Detroit Coney Island Murder
DETROIT (WWJ) - Two Detroit teens have been ordered to stand trial in carjacking and murder of 23-year-old Detroit resident Wyman Shaver outside a Coney Island last Thursday on Detroit's east side.
Victor Newell, 19, and Trenton Shell, 18, on Monday both stood mute to the charges. Not guilty pleas were entered on their behalf.
Shaver's sister Desiree, who nearly collapsed with grief on the steps of the 36th District Court, said her brother did not deserve the hand he was dealt.
"He wouldn't have did nothing to nobody," she said. "Y'all killed my brother to take something from him that he worked for."
Desiree said her brother had just completed a nursing program and was on his way to a successful career.
His mother, Sheila Shaver, said she moved the family from Detroit to Findlay, Ohio to escape the violence in the city.
"To succumb to this – I'm so heartbroken," Shaver said. "I had to bury seven sisters, but I've never lost a child. You think you know pain? This is pain."
Shaver left behind a three-year-old son.
Newell and Shell remain jailed without bond.
