2 Teens Apprehended, 3 On The Loose After Police Chase In Stolen Vehicle
WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) - Authorities are searching for three young people who fled on foot following a midnight police chase that left two of their friends in handcuffs.
The incident unfolded just after 2 a.m. Wednesday when Waterford Police received to a 911 call from a home in the 1000 Block of Denby Road, in a neighborhood south of Dixie Highway and Hatchery Road. The caller told police that they witnessed several suspects inside their vehicle. The caller further stated that they managed to scare the suspects, who fled the area in a silver pickup truck.
While responding to the call, officers observed the suspect vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop -- but the truck kept going. After what was described as a "brief vehicle pursuit," the pickup truck was eventually stopped.
Three of the five suspects fled on foot, with officers apprehending two suspects: a 16-year-old boy from Pontiac and a 14-year-old boy from Auburn Hills.
Officers on the scene were then advised by dispatch that pickup truck had been reported stolen out of Waterford on Monday.
Police say both suspects, because they're juveniles, were turned over to their parents while the case is reviewed for appropriate charges.
Investigators are currently trying to identify the three other suspects in this case. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 248-618-6105, or submit a tip anonymously at 248-674-COPS.
