2 Suspects Charged After Woman Escapes Kidnappers, Jumps From Car On I-94
DEARBORN (WWJ) -- Two people are in jail awaiting their preliminary exams for kidnapping a 22-year-old woman on Oct 18.
Patricia Jernigan, 23, and Terrell Smith, 31, were charged in 19th district court in Dearborn with four counts -- torture, kidnapping, criminal sexual conduct and armed robbery.
Jernigan's bond was set at $500,000 and Smith's was set at $1 million. Both are being held in the Wayne County Jail.
According to Dearborn police, the 22-year-old was abducted by at gunpoint near her Dearborn home on Sunday by a former female friend and her boyfriend, forced into the trunk of a car before they drove off.
She told police she was able to break out of the moving vehicle, falling onto eastbound I-94 near Livernois. A passerby stopped to help, driving the woman to Henry Ford Hospital where she was treated non-life threatening injuries she sustained during her escape.
The suspects were later tracked down to Warren, arrested and taken to jail.
