2 Senior Citizens Run Down In Walmart Parking Lot; Driver Later Arrested

LYON TWP. (WWJ) - An Oakland County man is facing a number of charges after striking two pedestrians in a Walmart parking lot.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. Tuesday outside of the Walmart store off of Grand River Avenue and Milford Road in Lyon Township.

According to police, a 74-year-old woman and an 82-year-old man were walking out of the store with a shopping cart when they were struck by a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. After the collision, which knocked the pair to the ground, the driver fled the scene.

The victims, both South Lyon residents, were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators found the pickup truck abandoned a short distance away and contacted the registered owner, who identified the driver. The 65-year-old Lyon Township man agreed to come to the police station, where he allegedly admitted to striking the victims with his vehicle.

Investigators then discovered that the suspect's driver's license was currently suspended and that he had a prior conviction for driving while license suspended. They also learned he was wanted on an unrelated misdemeanor warrant stemming from an alcohol-related charge, according to police.

At that point, the man was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and driving while license suspended -- second offense. He remains in custody at the Oakland County Jail, pending arraignment on the charges.

The incident remains under investigation.
