2 Men Arrested Trying To Meet 14-Year-Old Boy For Sex
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - Two Michigan men have been arrested after they allegedly tried to meet a detective posing as a teenage boy for sex.
Last Wednesday, Macomb County Sheriff's officials say 44-year-old Scott Hartwell of Casco Township "engaged in a sexually explicit dialogue" with a Macomb Area Computer Enforcement Team (M.A.C.E.) investigator online before arranging to meet the officer, whom he believed was a 14-year-old boy, for a sexual encounter. When Hartwell arrived for the bogus date, he was arrested.
Hartwell, who is already a registered sex offender as a result of a 2002 conviction, was arraigned in 41B District Court Friday on three counts of child sexual abusive activity and one count of using a computer to communicate in the commission of a crime.
He remained jailed on a $75,000 cash/surety bond pending his next court date set for Nov. 4.
In a separate by similar case, authorities say, a 60-year-old man began chatting online with MACE officer posing as a 14-year-old boy.
According to Sheriff's officials, Thomas Sturner of Lapeer sent sexually explicit messages to the investigator and agreed to meet at a Mt. Clemens apartment building for sex. When he arrived, he was arrested.
Sturner was arraigned Friday on one charge of child sexual abusive activity and one count of using a computer to communicate in the commission of a crime.
Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety. He remains jailed until his next court date, also set for Nov. 4.
