2 Killed In Car Crash, Fire In Berrien County

NEW BUFFALO TWP, Mich. (AP) - A car traveling at high speed blew past a stop sign, struck a tree and burst into flames in southwestern Michigan, killing two men inside.

The sheriff's department says the wreck occurred about 12:30 a.m. Saturday in Berrien County's New Buffalo Township. Authorities believe they know the names of the victims, but no identities will be released until after autopsies Monday.

They were traveling on Marquette Drive in a 2012 Volkswagen Passat. Deputies say there were no witnesses to the crash, which was reported by someone passing by.

Berrien County Undersheriff Charles Heit says one of the victims appears to be a Michigan resident, while the other is from Illinois but has a home in Michigan. They were in their early 20s.
