Pedestrian Dies After Multi-Car Crash On I-94 In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say a 37-year-old Lincoln Park man was killed and two others were hospitalized after a multi-car accident on I-94 in Detroit.
The accident happened just before 3 a.m. Saturday on westbound I-94 and Mt Elliot, near Van Dyke.
According to witness statements, a vehicle traveling westbound on I-94 near Mt. Elliot attempted to avoid a crashed vehicle that was blocking the left lane when it lost control. The vehicle then struck the rear of another vehicle that was stopped on the right shoulder of I-94. The impact pushed the vehicle into the Lincoln Park man, the driver of the car in the initial crash, who was out of his vehicle asking for assistance.
The Lincoln Park man, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Another passenger was also taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. An off-duty Detroit Police Sergeant who stopped to render assistance at the scene of the initial crash was also struck by the motorist and was transported to St. John's Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Police say alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.

Westbound I-94 at Van Dyke was shut down for nearly four hours as police investigated. The freeway has since reopened.
