2 Face Charges In Sexual Assault Of 1-Year-Old
GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ/AP) - A 25-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been returned to Michigan to face first-degree criminal sexual conduct and other charges in the sexual assault of a 1-year-old West Michigan girl.
Michael Emory and Stevie Foehl were being held Friday in the Kent County Jail in Grand Rapids after being arrested in South Carolina, WOOD-TV reported.
Authorities in Ottawa County were investigating Emory for a sexual assault on a teenager earlier this summer when they found a videotape in his Alpine Township apartment that showed both suspects engaging in sex acts with the 1-year-old.
Authorities say the alleged assaults might have taken place while the couple was babysitting the girl, who is the daughter of an acquaintance.
An affidavit alleges Emory raped the baby several times while Foehl held the camera, then he held the camera while she sexually assaulted the girl, WOOD-TV reported.
Police say Emory and Foehl fled the state shortly after the apartment was raided. They were arrested Aug. 16 in Spartansburg, S.C., and extradited to Michigan.
Emory faces three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of child sexually abusive activity and one count of using a computer to commit a crime -- in addition to a sexual assault charge out of Ottawa County in a separate incident.
Foehl faces one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of child sexually abusive activity, and one count of using a computer to commit a crime.
If convicted as charged, Emory and Foehl could be sentenced to life in prison.
Investigators say it's possible Emory and Foehl may have tried to access other potential victims via the Internet. Anyone with information is asked to call the Kent County Sheriff's Department at 616-632-6125.
