2 Face Charges After Threatening Store Detective With Gun On Black Friday
HOLLAND TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Two Grand Rapids women face armed robbery charges after threatening an Old Navy store detective with a gun during Black Friday shopping.
Ottawa County Sheriff's Deputies say the women, both 23-years-old, entered the store in Holland Township sometime after 5 a.m. and concealed items on their persons.
A store detective followed the women and confronted them in the parking lot around 5:40 a.m., where he was able to grab two bags from the women, according to police. The women ran away from the store and got into a van -- but instead of fleeing the scene, they drove up to the detective.
Both women then got out of the vehicle and one of them grabbed away a bag from the detective. The other woman tried to grab the other bag, but was unsuccessful. Police say at that point, the woman pulled out a handgun and threatened the detective.
The detective gave up the bag and the women sped away in the van, according to police.
Police were notified and sheriff's deputies eventually stopped the van in Olive Township, where both women were arrested without incident.
Deputies say a "large amount" of stolen property from other stores in West Michigan was found in the van.
