2 Detroit Cops, Woman Injured In 7 Mile Road Crash

DETROIT (WWJ) - Three people — including two Detroit police officers — have been rushed to the hospital following an accident.

The cops were speeding to the scene of a barricaded gunman situation when their patrol car crashed into another vehicle in the intersection of 7 Mile Road and Lahser.

Joe Codet was in his car nearby when he witnessed the crash.

"I was stopped at the intersection right over here, and the orange Ford right there basically plowed through the intersection right here and hit the police vehicle," he said. "And I don't know if the police vehicle had the little triggers that trigger the traffic lights. I could hear their sirens, but I don't think the lady saw it."

Deputy Chief David LeValley says police don't know yet exactly what happened or who was at fault.

He talked to WWJ's Sandra McNeill about the injuries.

"The young lady who was in the car here, who was injured is complaining of chest pains and is being checked out by the medic right now," LeValley said. "We'll get her to the hospital for some observation; and same thing with two of the officers that were in the car...both complaining of neck and back pain."

Seven Mile Road was closed at Lahser but has since reopened.
