2 Democratic Incumbents Will Vie For 2012 Congressional Seat
DETROIT (AP) - In Michigan's only 2012 congressional race pitting two incumbents against each other, Gary Peters has twice as much cash on hand as fellow Democrat Hansen Clarke.
Republicans redrew the congressional lines for 2012 after Michigan lost a seat due to shrinking population, putting Peters in the same district as longtime Democratic incumbent Sander Levin.
Instead of opposing Levin, the congressman from Bloomfield Township decided to run in the redrawn 14th District.
That pitted him against Clarke after the Detroiter switched his run to the 14th District.
The new 14th district stretches from Detroit to Pontiac.
