2 Charged With Killing Beauty Store Owner
DEARBORN (WWJ/AP) - Two men have been charged with the fatal shooting of a Detroit-area beauty-store owner who was killed during a robbery of hair extensions.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says 19-year-old Tanaka Wells and 18-year-old Ronnie Matthews have been charged with murder during a felony and armed robbery.
An arraignment was held at 11 a.m. at the 19th District Court before Judge Mark W. Somers.
Jay Shin, owner of Sunrise Beauty Supply in Dearborn, was killed on March 15. Police said about 80 packs of human hair used for weaves were stolen, worth about $135 each.
Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said tips from witnesses provided valuable leads.
"The arrests in this case were a direct result of the media, crime stoppers and the community working together with the police department," Haddad said.
If convicted, Wells and Matthews face mandatory life in prison.
