2 Charged In Connection With Teen Girl's Death
DETROIT (WWJ) - Days after a 16-year-old girl was found shot to death on her front lawn, two young men been arraigned on charges in connection with her death.
Prosecutors allege Devin Brown, a friend of the victim, shot her in the chest in broad daylight Sunday afternoon in the 3000 block of Oakman Blvd. in Detroit.
Brown, 21, was arraigned on a manslaughter charge; and Kermil Smith, 18, was arraigned on charges of obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact.
Investigators who interviewed Smith at the victim's home say he lied to them about what had happened and hid the gun used in the shooting.
Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody said police initially believed the shooting as accidental, but further investigation indicated otherwise.
The victim's younger brother reportedly witnessed the whole thing.
Both Brown and Smith are due back in 36th District Court next week.
The victim's name was not immediately released.
