2 Auburn Hills Schools On Lockdown Due To Threat At Nearby Business
AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) - Two Oakland County schools went into lockdown Monday morning due to threatening calls to a pair of local businesses.
According to Auburn Hills Police Lt. Jill McDonnell, Avondale High and Auburn Elementary were placed on voluntary lockdown after the calls were received by 911 dispatchers at 6:45 a.m. and 7:15 a.m.
The calls didn't reference the schools, McDonnell said, but two manufacturing businesses on opposite sides of town.
"The business, located at Auburn Road and I-75, is very close to Avondale High and Auburn Elementary. The schools have chosen to go into lockdown, as a precautionary measure," McDonnell said. "There is no threat to the school."
The other business mentioned is located at Josyln and I-75 was also targeted, police said. McDonnell said one of the two businesses was also placed on lockdown, with management at the other gave employees the option to stay home.
Police aren't identifying the businesses, or the specific nature of the threat, at this time.
McDonnell said that whether the threats were legit or a hoax, they're taken very seriously.
No injuries have been reported.
An investigation is ongoing.
