2 Arrested After Oakland County Craigslist Seller Robbed At Gunpoint
AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) - What began with a Craigslist deal to buy a MacBook ended with two people behind bars.
Oakland County Sheriff's officials say the alleged victim, an 18-year-old Orion Township man, told investigators he was contacted by a couple of guys who wanted to buy an Apple laptop computer he'd posted for sale on the classifieds website Craigslist.
When the buyers arrived, they reportedly gave the seller $800 in phony money. When the seller realized the money was fake, one of the buyers allegedly pulled a gun, pointing it at the victim before fleeing with the stolen computer.
The victim followed the subjects for a short distance before losing sight of them. After a BOL (be on the lookout) was put out by the sheriff's office, Auburn Hills police spotted the suspects traveling southbound on I-75. They were pulled over near Wattles Rd. in Troy, and taken into custody.
The laptop was recovered.
Both suspects, both 21-year-old Detroit residents, remain lodged at the Oakland County Jail. Their names have not yet been released, pending a formal arraignment on robbery charges.
Authorities, meantime, remind those using Craigslist to buy and sell to use caution and always meet in a public place. Law enforcement agencies across metro Detroit have suggested police department parking lots as a safer option.
