19-Year-Old Man Found Shot To Death At Michigan Park

SAGINAW, Mich. (CBS Detroit/AP) - Michigan State Police say the death of a 19-year-old man who was found near a playground at a Saginaw park is being investigated as a homicide.

The Saginaw News reports the body of Laquavis Cooper was found after Saginaw police responded on Sunday morning to Fordney Park — at Braley and Chestnut on the city's west side— after a passerby called 911.

Police said he died of an apparent gunshot wound.

Cooper's death is the eighth homicide in Saginaw in this year.

His sister Shayla shared several photos of and messages about Cooper on Facebook over the last 24 hours.

"...My brother didn't deserve to die this young; all he wanted to do was make a better life for his son an show him wrong from right," she wrote. "Things will never be the same without my big bro...Imma make you proud brother I promise you."

Investigators are seeking tips from those with information about the case. Anyone who knows anything is urged to call the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-800-422-JAIL or the Michigan State Police Major Crimes Unit at 231-250-9471.
