19-Year-Old Killed By Suspected Drunk Driver In Macomb County
HARRISON TWP. (WWJ) - A 19-year old Macomb County woman has died after being involved in a suspected drunk driving crash in Harrison Township.
The accident happened around 8 p.m. Thursday on Metro Parkway near Union Lake Road, just west of I-94.
Investigators say Maya Horton, of Clinton Township, was heading northbound from Union Lake onto Metro Parkway when her car was broadsided by vehicle traveling eastbound on Metro Parkway. Horton was rushed to McLaren Macomb Hospital where she later died.
Police say Horton may not have yielded to the eastbound traffic. They also suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 50-year-old Harrison Township man who was uninjured, was arrested at the scene. The Macomb County Sheriff's Department said they are in the process of seeking alcohol related charges with the prosecutor's office.
An investigation is ongoing.
