19-Year-Old Charged With Attempted Murder In Downriver Shooting

LINCOLN PARK (WWJ) - A 19-year-old man could end up spending the rest of his life in prison after being charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting Downriver.

Tobias Catron was arraigned Friday in 25th District Court on charges of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, felonious assault and felony firearm. He was ordered held without bond.

Authorities say Catron shot a 44-year-old Lincoln Park man in the neck during an argument Wednesday afternoon in the 1400 block of Mayflower, off Fort Street just south of Champaign Road.

According to police, Catron was involved in some type of confrontation with the man, during which he grabbed a gun and opened fire. He then fled the scene.

The victim, said to be the father of Catron's female friend, was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck. He has since been released and is expected to recover.

Catron turned himself in to police Thursday evening after 26-hour manhunt. According to reports, the weapon used in the shooting was found in Catron's bedroom.

He's due back in court for a probable cause hearing on August 4, followed by a preliminary exam on August 11.
