19-Year-Old Arrested In Connection With Fatal Shooting
DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say a 19-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Detroit's east side.
Police say the arrest stems from an incident that took place around 11 p.m. on Easter Sunday at a home in the 9100 block of Oldtown, near I-94.
Police say they arrived at the house to find a 26-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the body. He was conveyed to a local hospital for medical treatment, but died later.
Police believe the male victim had a verbal altercation with the male suspect, who fired shots before fleeing the scene. It is believed that the victim and suspect are family related.
As members from the department's Eastern District's Special Operations began to aggressively gather information, the suspect was identified. Police say they received a citizen's tip and went to a home located in the 12000 block of Corbett, where they apprehended the suspect without any incidents.
"We are determined to apprehend these individuals who have no regard for human life," Police Chief Chester Logan said in a statement. "But, we must continue to build upon the strong foundation of partnership between the citizens and the law enforcement community, if we are going to win this battle against crime."
Police say investigators' findings will be submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office for review.
