Police say when they arrived on the scene, the teen was lying wounded in the yard. He later died at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital.
Warren Police Commissioner Jerry Green was asked if the home owner was right in firing and killing an alleged robber in his home.
"Everyone has a different threshold when it comes to whether or not they think they are in harms way, you know, there are just a lot of variables that go into effect. His particular mind-set at the time, I don't know. But he responded in this way and the prosecutor will have to take a look at it to decide whether or not it falls within the parameters of the law," says Commissioner Green.
The homeowner was also hospitalized briefly after suffering from an apparent panic attack.
Police interviewed the homeowner Monday, and will continue the questioning Tuesday.
