15-Month-Old Baby Shot In Face In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police say a baby girl is in temporary-serious condition after suffering a gunshot wound to the face.
The incident happened around 11:45 p.m. Friday at a home in the 15000 block of Rossini, near East State Fair and Redmond streets.
Sgt. Michael Woody said the 15-month-old girl was hit by a bullet when shots were fired in the east side neighborhood. The bullet struck the girl in the left cheek, Woody said.
A neighbor, who did not want to be named, said she was just relaxing when she heard shots going off outside her home.
"I heard a few gunshots and I waited a second or two, and I opened my door and heard my neighbor screaming," the woman told WWJ's Kathryn Larson. "They were calling her name so I ran out and I just started yelling for help."
The baby was rushed to a local hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Woody said the shooting remains under investigation.
