13-Year-Old Driver Leads Police On High-speed Chase
OCEOLA TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - State police say they chased down an underage driver speeding in a car full of kids.
It all began early Wednesday morning when a trooper tried to make a traffic stop on Clyde Road near Argentine Road in Livingston County's Oceola Township.
Trooper Thomas Pinkerton said the driver of a Jeep Cherokee with no tail lights refused to pull over.
Pinkerton lost sight of the vehicle, but it was soon spotted by a Livingston County Sheriff patrol unit — and a chase began.
Reaching speeds over 100 mpg, the pursuit took them from M-59 to I-96 in the Brighton area. It all ended on Lyon Parkway in South Oakland Township when police say the young driver lost control and crashed into a group of trees.
Inside the jeep, along with the 13-year-old male driver, police found a 14-year-old boy and three girls from Fenton — ages 14,14 and 15.
No one was hurt. Police say alcohol was a factor in the incident.
The two boys, one from Hartland and one from Howell, were lodged in a secure juvenile facility, pending charges from the Livingston County Prosecutor's Office.
The girls were turned over to their parents.
No names have been released.
