14-Year-Old Detroit Boy Charged With Attempted Murder In Mom's Shooting
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 14-year-old boy has been charged with assault with intent to murder and felonious assault after his mother was shot in their northwest Detroit home.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday that the teen will be tried as a juvenile, but could be sentenced as an adult if convicted. He could also be given a blended juvenile and adult sentence if found guilty.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled Thursday at the Juvenile Detention Center in Detroit.
Police have said the boy's 38-year-old woman was shot at least twice on June 11 during a disagreement at their home, located in the 15000 block of Wisconsin. The gun also was pointed at the teen's brother. The woman received treatment at a local hospital and is expected to recover.
The teen was arrested after a 15-hour manhunt when officers saw him walking through a neighborhood in the area of Appoline and Keeler streets.
The boy's name is not being released because he is being charged as a juvenile.
