11-Year-Old Held In Attempted Abduction Of 6-Year-Old Boy
GEORGETOWN TWP. (WWJ/AP) - An 11-year-old West Michigan boy faces attempted kidnapping and assault charges after a 6-year-old was lured from a yard and led away from his home.
The 11-year-old, whose name was not released, is currently being held in the Ottawa County Juvenile Detention Center and will likely remain there until a court hearing.
Ottawa County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Bennett said the 6-year-old was playing in his front yard in Georgetown Township, southwest of Grand Rapids, around 5 p.m. Wednesday when the 11-year-old boy approached him. Bennett said the older boy grabbed the 6-year-old by the neck and jacket collar, and forcefully led him down the street and across some railroad tracks.
Bennett said the pre-teen used a trick to lure the young boy out of the yard, but wouldn't give further details other than to say it was "rather intricate for an 11-year-old to come up with." He said the boys know each other but are not friends.
The younger boy's stepmother tracked them down and had to pry the boy from the 11-year-old's grasp, Bennett said. The 6-year-old was not hurt.
Deputies later found the older boy, who has been in trouble with police before, at his house with his family and took him into custody.
